Job Description: Senior Associate – Insurance Data SME (P&C)

Location: New York, NY / Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid: 3-4 days in-office)

Experience Level: 15+ Years

Domain: Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly seasoned Insurance Data Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our data transformation team. As a Senior Associate, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between complex P&C insurance business processes and technical data architecture.

The ideal candidate will possess deep domain expertise in the P&C lifecycle—including underwriting, claims, and policy administration—and will lead the strategic development of data structures that power our next-generation analytics and reporting platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Strategy & Ontology: Lead the design and implementation of a robust Data Ontology framework to standardize insurance concepts across the enterprise.
  • Business Translation: Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and data engineering teams to ensure data models accurately reflect P&C business logic.
  • Data Governance: Define and enforce data standards, quality rules, and master data management (MDM) strategies specific to insurance products.
  • Architectural Guidance: Provide expert input on the design of data lakes, warehouses, and downstream reporting marts to ensure they support complex actuarial and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentorship: Act as a technical and domain mentor to junior data analysts and engineers, fostering a culture of insurance-centric data excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in data-centric roles specifically within the Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance industry.
  • Domain Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of P&C data domains, including but not limited to Policy, Claims, Billing, Reinsurance, and Producer data.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with Data Ontology, Knowledge Graphs, or Semantic Modeling within a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Data Tools: Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, AWS, or Databricks).
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical data concepts to non-technical executive leadership.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with ACORD standards or other insurance industry data models.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in insurance (e.g., predictive modeling for claims or risk assessment).
  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Information Management, or an MBA with a focus on Business Analytics.
